§ Mr. Ron DaviesTo ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will list the number of zoos(a) which have failed to meet his Department's standards of modern zoo practice, under the Zoo Licensing Act 1981, in each year since 1981 and (b) which have lost their licence as a result of such failure.
§ Mr. Maclean[holding answer 12 May 1992]: The operation of the Zoo Licensing Act 1981 is the responsibility of local authorities. No information on the numbers of zoos failing to meet the required standards or zoos which have lost their licenses is held centrally.
