To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what response he has made to Powys health authority following its request for funds for a publicity campaign to alert the public to the dangers of hydatidosis; and if he will make a statement.

The Welsh Office has been providing funds to Powys health authority since 1989 for a public education campaign on hydatid disease. Total funding to the end of 1991–92 is estimated at £100,000, and £17,000 has been set aside in 1992–93. Powys health authority have bid for increased resources for 1993–94. This request is being considered as part of the public expenditure round.
