HL Deb 16 June 1992 vol 538 c10WA
Lord Brougham and Vaux

asked Her Majesty's Government:

When they expect to announce their proposals for the revision of the Highway Code.

The Minister of State, Department of Transport (The Earl of Caithness)

We have laid before Parliament a document setting out our proposed alterations to theHighway Code. These take into account the many responses received to the Department's consultation document issued last October.

This has been the first major review of the Highway Code since 1978. The proposals contain 42 new rules and many other rules have been amended to reflect changes in the law and best road safety practice. We are taking the opportunity also to improve the format of the code in order to make it more attractive to the reader and so encourage further its regular use by all road users.
