To ask the President of the Board of Trade how many prosecutions there were in 1991 for unlicensed marine very high frequency sets.

During 1991, seven people were prosecuted for the unlicensed use of marine very high frequency equipment.

To ask the President of the Board of Trade if he will list the number of officials and type of craft used by his Department to enforce very high frequency marine radio licences and the areas they cover.

My Department's Radiocommunications Agency has 97 field officers deployed around the United Kingdom who are responsible for the enforcement of the Wireless Telegraphy Acts, including the licensing of marine very high frequency radio equipment. The officers have five rigid inflatable boats for this work.
