§ Mr. Bowis
To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what discussions he has held with his EC colleagues on the United Kingdom's and the Community's plans for the European Year of Civil Protection beginning on 1 July 1993.

§ Mr. Jack
At a meeting of the Council of Ministers held in November 1990 to discuss civil protection, my right hon. and noble Friend the Lord Ferrers and his ministerial colleagues endorsed a resolution, agreeing in principle that July 1993 to July 1994 should be designated the European Year of Civil Protection. Officials from member states are now working to produce a revised draft resolution.
