§ Mr. Llew SmithTo ask the Secretary of State for Transport, pursuant to his answer of 26 June,Official Report, column 343, which Government Department keeps records of the import by air of nuclear fuel rods into the United Kingdom; and whether this information is published.
§ Mr. EggarI have been asked to reply.
Her Majesty's Customs and Excise keeps records of such imports into the United Kingdom and compiles aggregated trade statistics which are published monthly by the Central Statistical Office—overseas trade statistics of the United Kingdom: M MM20 of the business monitor series. The safeguards office of the Department of Trade and Industry receives information on imports of safeguarded nuclear material, including fuel rods, and forwards this to Euratom. Information for safeguards purposes is supplied in confidence. Neither the overseas trade statistics nor the information held by safeguards office identifies separately movements by air.
