§ Mr. OppenheimTo ask the President of the Board of Trade what steps he will take, during the United Kingdom presidency of the EC, to establish the right of United Kingdom and other EC consumer organisations to play an active role in EC trade and anti-dumping procedures.
§ Mr. NeedhamIt is for the European Commission to seek the views of consumer organisations on particular cases being considered under EC trade policy instruments. Commission proposals put to the Council of Ministers should include an assessment of the impact on consumers. During its presidency the United Kingdom will ensure that the views of member states, including any views on consumer aspects, are taken into account when considering Commission proposals. My Department has regular contact with consumer organisations in the United Kingdom on trade policy matters.
