§ Mr. Llew SmithTo ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what will be the effect on projects in Africa supported or sponsored by the Overseas Development Administration of the agreement achieved at the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development of(a) the statement on forestry principles and (b) the desertification initiative.
§ Mr. Lennox-BoydThere will be no direct effect on current projects, which we believe to be consistent with the UNCED forest principles. We will respond to requests from developing countries for assistance with implementing the agreements reached at UNCED, including in the areas of forests and land degradation or desertification.
