HL Deb 09 January 1992 vol 533 cc93-4WA
Lady Saltoun of Abernethy

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they have decided which categories of employment will be affected by the repayment of the capital sum to those servicemen who are declared redundant.

The Earl of Arran

The redundancy compensation terms for service personnel stipulate that the special capital payment shall be refunded in whole or in part if, within two years of leaving the Armed Forces on redundancy, an appointment is taken up which is:

  1. (a) in a post reserved for former members of the Armed Forces; or
  2. (b) made by or on the recommendation of a Minister of the Crown;
  3. or
  4. (c) made with the approval of a Minister of the Crown (other than a business appointment where it is required that the application should be so approved).

A refund of the special capital payment, in whole or in part, is also required where redundant personnel are, within five years, re-employed in any one of the Armed Forces.
