§ Lord Harris of Greenwichasked Her Majesty's Government:
How many remand and sentenced prisoners and detainees under the Immigration Acts were held in police cells by each police force on 4th February 1992.
The Minister of State, Home Office (Earl Ferrers)The number of prisoners held in police cells by each police force on 4th February are shown in the attached table. I regret that the information is not collected in a way which enables remand prisoners to be distinguished from sentenced prisoners, but most would have been held on remand. Similarly, it is not possible from the information available to identify immigration detainees but it is unlikely that any prisoners held in police cells would be detainees.
