§ Mr. DoranTo ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what guidance he has given to the trust hospitals concerning the appointment of senior staff, advertising of posts, equal opportunities and salary levels.
§ Mr. Lang[holding answer 13 February 1992]: Terms and conditions of trust employees are essentially matters for the trust board but as "NHS Trusts: A Working Guide" makes clear trusts will be required to follow proper procedures as set out in employment legislation; to demonstrate a positive commitment to equal opportunities; and to ensure that there is no unfair discrimination. Trusts are also aware of the need to ensure that salaries are set at levels which properly reflect the responsibilities involved and secure value for money.
