§ Mr. KennedyTo ask the Secretary of State for Health what estimates he has for the cost in 1992–93 of abolishing charges for dental check-ups and sight tests; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mrs. Virginia Bottomley[holding answer 11 February 1992]: £65 million is a provisional estimate of the full cost in 1992–93 of abolishing dental examination charges. No corresponding estimate exists for sight tests; there are no charges for NHS sight tests, which are available to approximately 40 per cent. of the population.
