HL Deb 03 February 1992 vol 535 c6WA
Lord Cocks of Hartcliffe

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they are satisfied that public house licensees are being treated fairly over their rent reviews by the major breweries.

Lord Reay

The major brewers have agreed at the Government's prompting to introduce procedures for the independent arbitration or assessment of rent in cases where agreement cannot be reached in individual negotiations with tenants. This should provide tenants with some reassurance where they consider the amount of rent being sought for the new long-term leases being introduced by the brewers is too high.
