To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what plans his Department is making for the European year of elderly people and solidarity between the generations in 1993.

My right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Health has the lead responsibility in this area, and I refer my hon. Friend to his reply. In drawing up plans for the European year, the Department of Health is consulting a wide range of national voluntary and professional bodies, statutory authorities and other relevant Government Departments.
