HC Deb 16 December 1992 vol 216 c223W
Mr. Peter Bottomley

To ask the Secretary of State for Health what estimate she has made of the number of organ or eye donations that could have been used for transplants and the actual numbers of transplants in the latest period for which figures are available.

Mr. Sackville

The table gives the number of organs and corneas donated and the number of organs transplanted in the United Kingdom for the latest period for which information is available. The principal reason why donated organs are not used is because of clinical unsuitability. The United Kingdom Transplant Support Service Authority collects data on and publishes the reason for not using organs, in its annual report, a copy of which is available in the Library.
