HC Deb 10 December 1992 vol 215 c765W
Mr. Alex Carlile

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what proposals he has to alleviate unemployment in Wales.

Mr. David Hunt

The Welsh Office, along with the development agencies and training and enterprise councils, already have in place very successful initiatives designed to encourage enterprise, create new jobs and safeguard existing ones. Regional selective assistance alone has been highly successful; with offers of assistance since 1979 forecast to safeguard over 53,000 jobs and to create almost 114,000 new jobs in Wales.
