asked Her Majesty's Government:

What expenditure has been incurred so far in pursuing alleged war criminals under the War Crimes Act 1991; and what is their latest estimate of the cost of pursuing the 99 cases already under investigation to their ultimate conclusion.

Expenditure so far incurred under the War Crimes Act 1991 is estimated at £3 million. The cost of pursuing the remaining cases to their conclusion will depend on the outcome of the investigations and proceedings. A total provision of £36.6 million has been made for this purpose.
