To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what were the recommendations agreed this week on value-added tax on the import of pleasure craft; and if he will make a statement.

Proposals by the EC Commission about VAT on pleasure craft currently under temporary importation arrangements are still under discussion in the Council as part of the simplification directive. I will write to the hon. Member with details when the proposal is adopted.
