HC Deb 01 December 1992 vol 215 c85W
Mr. Anthony Coombs

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what action he plans to take to persuade the Pakistani authorities to review the death sentence for blasphemy passed on the Christian, Gul Masih; and what representations he has made to the Pakistani Government concerning the treatment of religious minorities in Pakistan.

Mr. Lennox-Boyd

We have been carefully monitoring the position of all minorities in Pakistan, including Christians, for some time. We have regularly made our concerns known to the Pakistan Government, most recently on 30 November with the Pakistan Foreign Secretary, Shaharyar Khan. We understand that the case of Mr. Gul Masih has gone to appeal.
