To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what measures he will put in place from 1 January 1993 to avoid the export of horses for slaughter under the EC trade legislation.

As indicated in the reply given on 6 November to my hon. Friend the Member for Uxbridge (Mr. Shersby), EC Directive 91/628 provides specifically for national provisions in relation to horses, and our rules will continue to apply from 1 January 1993.
