§ Mr. MatesFirearms licensing is the responsibility of the Chief Constable of the Royal Ulster Constabulary. He has advised me that at the end of February this year a total of 87,421 firearm certificates were held in Northern Ireland. This figure equates to approximately one certificate per 13 persons aged 18 and over.
