§ Mr. MaxtonTo ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will give the figures for manufacturing investment in Scotland in(a) cash terms and (b) deflated by the gross domestic product deflator in each year since 1974; and what would have been the total additional amount invested in Scottish manufacturing industry if investment had remained at 1979 levels.
§ Mr. Allan StewartThe following table shows estimated gross domestic fixed capital formation, GDFCF, in manufacturing industries in Scotland in cash terms for each year since 1974 for which estimates are available. The table also shows the deflator for the United Kingdom gross domestic product (GDP) at factor cost for each year. It is not appropriate to deflate Scottish gross domestic fixed capital formation estimates using a United Kingdom gross domestic product deflator and there are no appropriate deflators available for Scottish capital expenditure.
