Mr. Galbraith

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland (1) what information he has on,(a) the extent of the area of land at the Insh marshes, Strathspey, which has been notified as a site of special scientific interest, (b) the main features of nature conservation importance of this site, and (c) the main factors necessary to maintain this status;

(2) when the Irish marshes/River Spey were first identified as meeting the criteria for designation as a special protection area under the European Community directive on the Conservation of Wild Birds and as a wetland of international importance under the Ramsar convention; and if he will list the stages that have so far been completed in progressing these designations.
