To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what is the current waiting period for cardiac surgery in the Lothian health board area.

Mr. Michael Forsyth

The median waiting time for admission for cardiac surgery in the period April-June 1991 was 12 weeks. By definition 50 per cent. of patients admitted had waited for less than 12 weeks.

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will give the age and sex of residents in the Lothian health board area who are awaiting cardiac surgery.

At 30 June 1991 there were 104 male patients and 45 female patients residing in the Lothian health board area awaiting cardiac surgery.
