§ Mr. KeyMy Department wrote to local authorities in the United Kingdom on 27 September 1991 asking them about deposits with BCCI. Returns are due to be submitted by 7 November. The information we have received to date is as follows.

Officials from the Department have met representatives of the local authorities affected by the closure of BCCI to clarify the implications for authorities of the bank's closure, and to identify possible measures which the affected authorities might wish to consider. We have also received a number of requests from individual authorities for various forms of assistance and we are considering these.
