HC Deb 18 October 1991 vol 196 cc270-1W
Mr. Flynn

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what decisions he has made on the recommendations of the inspector's report on the public inquiry into the application to build a wind power farm in Cemmaes in Powys; and if he will make a statement on the future of wind-generated power in Wales.

Mr. Nicholas Bennett

My right hon. Friend granted planning permission for the wind farm at Mynydd y Cemmaes on 19 September 1991. Other wind farm proposals in Wales will need to be considered on their own planning merits. The Government's general policy is to stimulate the development and application of all forms of renewable energy, including wind energy, wherever they have prospects of being economically competitive and environmentally acceptable. The Department of Energy has invested more than £180 million on renewable energy programmes in the United Kingdom, and expenditure this year is at a record level.
