To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what proposals he has to improve road safety on the roadway between Portavogie and Cloughey in the townland of Ratallagh; if he will arrange for the erection of 30 mph speed limit signs; if he will provide a footway at this location; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Needham

There are at present no proposals to improve the section of road in question, to introduce a 30 mph speed limit or to provide a footway.

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland if he will list works carried out since his reply of 19 November 1990,Official Report, columns 37–38; and what further proposals he has to improve road safety at Saltwater bridge, Kircubbin.

Mr. Needham

No works have been carried out at Saltwater bridge, Kircubbin since November 1990. A scheme to realign the carriageway and improve forward sight distances is due to start, subject to the availability of the necessary finance, early next year.

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what proposals he has to widen the Harbour road, Ballyhalbert, and to provide a footway in those stretches of the road where no footway presently exists.

There are present no proposals to widen Harbour road, Ballyhalbert or to provide additional lengths of footway on it.
