§ Mr. Nicholas BennettDetailed information concerning medical staff in post, as at 30 September, is collected by means of an annual census. Rehabilitation medicine was not recognised as a speciality for this purpose until the 1990 census and at that date no consultants were formally recognised as working in rehabilitation medicine. This does not mean, however, that no consultants work in this area of medicine, only that they cannot, as yet, be recognised separately. I will write to the hon. Gentleman about how this will happen in future.
