HC Deb 14 October 1991 vol 196 c105W
16. Mr. French

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what is his estimate of the number of road vehicles in use in the United Kingdom(a) covered by fully comprehensive insurance, (b) covered by third party insurance and (c) not covered by insurance.

Mr. Chope

Approximately 70 per cent. of private cars are covered by comprehensive insurance and 30 per cent. by third party insurance. A breakdown is not available for motorcycles and commercial/fleet vehicles. I do not have a reliable estimate of the number of vehicles being used without insurance.
