HC Deb 14 October 1991 vol 196 c58W
Mr. John Marshall

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what representations have been made to the Soviet authorities about the granting of an exit visa to (1) Alexander and Zhanna Gomelsky of Kiev;

  1. (2) Eugeny Pisarevsky of Leningrad;
  2. (3) Solomon Smolyar; and
  3. (4) Philip Bagod of Leningrad.

Mr. Douglas Hogg

Details of the exit visa applications of Philip Bagod, Alexander and Zhanna Gomelsky, Eugeny Pisarevsky and Solomon Smolyar were included in a list of cases handed over by the British embassy in Moscow to the soviet authorities on 29 August. During the CSCE conference on the human dimension in Moscow from 10 September to 4 October, the United Kingdom delegation strongly urged the Soviet authorities to implement freedom of travel for all Soviet citizens, citing the particular cases of Mr. Smolyar and Mr. Pisarevsky.
