HC Deb 14 October 1991 vol 196 c96W
Mr. Prescott

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment whether he has received any request from the Road Transport Industry Training Board to become a registered charity.

Mr. Jackson

The Road Transport Industry Training Board is currently registered as a charity.

Mr. Prescott

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment what is the asset value of the Road Transport Industry Training Board; who owns the board's assets; what plans he has to change the ownership of the assets; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Jackson

The most recent audited accounts for the Road Transport ITB show that it had total assets of £1563 million at 31 March 1991. It is planned for the ITB to be wound up around September 1992. The Industrial Training Act 1982 provides that assets may pass to other bodieson trust to be used for charitable purposes which arc related to or connected with training for employment".

It is expected that the work of this industry training board will be carried forward by two standards councils, one for the retail motor industry and the other for road haulage, and a services company which will provide training courses, assessment arrangements for national vocational qualifications, and so on.
