Mr. Spearing

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what arrangements, including time of despatch, he made concerning availability of the Departmental report on the Marchioness disaster for each of the categories(a) persons concerned in the inquiry, (b) relatives of the deceased, (c) hon. Members of Parliament (i) in general and (ii) in London and (d) the media.

The official time for release of the report was 11.30 am on Thursday 15 August 1991. Copies of the report were sent by courier, to arrive in all cases at least 24 hours prior to the official release, to(a) solicitors/parties concerned in the inquiry and(b) solicitors representing the survivors and the relatives of those who died, for onward transmission to their clients. Copies of the report were sent to the House of Commons Library on 15 August.

The report was released to the media at 9.30 am on 15 August with a bar on publication until 11.30.

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what representations he has received concerning omissions of relevant facts from the investigation report of the Marine Accident Investigation Branch into the Marchioness tragedy; what actions he has taken; what replies he has sent; and if he will make a statement.
