Mr. Darling

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether any area of terminal 4 at Heathrow airport is listed in the Immigration (Places of Detention) Order.

The area used for detention at Heathrow airport terminal 4 comes within the provisions of the Immigration (Places of Detention) Direction 1987.

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many people were detained by the Immigration Service at terminal 4 at Heathrow airport on the 1st and 15th of each month in 1991.

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department (1) what is the size of the area used for detention at terminal 4 at Heathrow airport;

(2) how many (a) beds, (b) toilets, (c) wash basins, (d) showers, (e) baths and (f) telephones are available to people detained at terminal 4 at Heathrow airport.

The size of the area used for detention at terminal 4 at Heathrow airport is 157.5 sq m. The facilities currently available include 12 beds, four toilets, four wash basins, and one telephone. There are no showers or baths. All people detained overnight at Heathrow terminal 4 are, however, taken to the immigration service detention centre, Harmondsworth the next morning where they have access to showers.
