Mr. Hind

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will tabulate for each local education authority the amount of money retained by the central administration that could have been delegated in the potential schools budget to meet the 85 per cent. requirement; and whether he will estimate how much this would have been for each primary and secondary school in each local education authority.

Notes:

1. The local education authorities (LEAs) listed are the 56 which are currently delegating less than 85 per cent. of their potential schools budget (PSB).

2. A new requirement from April 1993 is that the proportion of the PSB delegated to schools should be a minimum of 85 per cent. Column 2 gives the amount extra which would have been delegated this year if the LEA had reached the 85 per cent. minimum.

3. Column 3 gives the amount in column 2 expressed as an average amount per school for each LEA, rounded to the nearest £100.
