§ Mr. Alan HowarthThe Polytechnics and Colleges Funding Council award quality ratings, based on advice from Her Majesty's Inspectorate and others, to institutions in nine programme areas. Courses where modern foreign languages form the major element are in programme area 7. The following institutions have been judged as having outstanding quality in 50 per cent. or more of provision—full and part-time—in programme area 7.
