Mrs. Heal

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science what provision has been made for the further education funding councils to consult people and organisations with specialist knowledge of special educational needs; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Eggar

The Further and Higher Education Bill currently before Parliament requires the further education funding councils to have regard to the requirements of those with learning difficulties in making provision for further education. The funding councils will be able to determine what consultation is needed to enable them to carry out this duty effectively.

Mr. Fatchett

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science when he advised local education authorities that they may no longer apply for resources from the voluntary aided schools capital programme for

further or adult education are enabled to choose between provision in schools and provision in colleges of further education.

Mr. Eggar

The Further and Higher Education Bill currently before Parliament will ensure that a wide range of educational provision continues to be available for students with special educational needs, including provision in schools and in colleges of further education.
