§ Mr. Wilson
To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what powers British Rail has to run bus services to link in with and complement its rail services.
§ Mr. Freeman
Section 118 of the Transport Act 1985 gives the British Railways Board powers to secure the provision by other persons of services for the carriage of passengers by road where a railway service has been temporarily interrupted, or has been discontinued. The board has no power to run bus services themselves.
