To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer how many bankruptcy petitions have been brought by Customs and Excise this year.

In the calendar year to 1 November 1991 Customs and Excise have presented 5,486 bankruptcy petitions in England and Wales, 255 in Scotland and a further 178 in Northern Ireland.
