Mr. Fearn

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport if he will make it part of British Rail's quality of service objectives that all British Rail stations are fully accessible to disabled passengers.

Mr. McLoughlin

British Rail already does much to make its network accessible to those with disabilities. I expect BR's commitment to improving the existing arrangements to be set out in the forthcoming BR passengers charter.

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what consultations he has had with British Rail over the funding of disabled access to stations.

Mr. McLoughlin

The funding of access to stations for disabled people is not considered as a separate issue. Rather, British Rail is expected to take account of the needs of people with disabilities whenever it plans the modification or refurbishment of stations.
