To ask the Secretary of State for Defence when he intends to order a replacement for the type 42 destroyer; and if he will make a statement.

Following withdrawal from NFR90, we have been considering the way forward for an anti-air warfare frigate to replace the type 42 from around the turn of the century. We hope to make an announcement on the next stage of this programme in the next few months.
