Mr. Vaz

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many prisoners there are in Britain and in each prison as of 10 May; and what is the capacity of each prison.

On 10 May there were a total of 45,302 prisoners in England and Wales, including 603 in police cells. The table shows the number of prisoners in each prison service establishment and the certified normal accommodation—the uncrowded capacity—of each establishment.
