Whether the remit to the Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education in respect of its inquiry into the preparation of student primary teachers to teach reading has been extended since 17th April 1991; and if so, in what way.
§ The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department of the Environment (Baroness Blatch)My honourable friend the Parliamentary Under-Secretary6WA of State (Mr. Fallon), during a debate on dyslexia on 17th April 1991 (Official Report, cols. 545–552), promised to refer the matter of pupils with difficulties in learning to read to the Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (CATE).
On 25th April he wrote to the Chairman of CATE asking that the Council devote some attention in its current inquiry to the question of the training of teachers in how to identify and help pupils with dyslexia. Copies of this letter have been placed in the Library of the House.
