§ Mr. Ashdown
To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what is the final cost for building the Ilminster bypass (A303).

§ Mr. Chope
The cost of the construction works was £21.23 million. Compensation for land acquisition and other property matters is estimated to cost a further £1.5 million at 1991 prices.

§ Mr. Ashdown
To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what his estimate is for the cost of dualling the Ilminster bypass.

§ Mr. Chope
Preliminary estimates range from about £20 million to over £30 million depending on the manner in which the dualling might be carried out.
