§ Lord James Douglas-HamiltonThe Government have provided recurrent funding for the arts in Scotland amounting to £162.4 million since 1979; a real terms increase over the 1979–80 figure of 67.5 per cent. My Department has also provided £39.9 million for building works since 1988.
For the future, I have already committed major expenditure on the new Museum of Scotland and on the extension of the National Library of Scotland.
