HC Deb 13 May 1991 vol 191 c10W
33. Mr. Archer

To ask the Minister for the Arts how many Turner paintings are currently hanging in Government offices.

Mr. Renton

There are currently four paintings by Joseph Mallord William Turner (1775–1851) hanging in Government offices. They are:

  • A Quiet Ruin
  • Italian Landscape with Tower
  • Waves Breaking against the Wind
  • Sunset

These four paintings are on temporary loan from the Tate gallery, London, to the Prime Minister's office, 10 Downing street, 1991. The loan was negotiated in 1989.
