HC Deb 13 May 1991 vol 191 cc42-3W
Mr. Tony Lloyd

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment what responses he has had from organisations representing people with disabilities to the consultative document "Employment and Training for People with Disabilities".

Mr. Jackson

More than 400 responses have been received to the consultative document many of which are from organisations representing people with disabilities or their interests including committees for the employment of disabled people and voluntary organisations.

Mr. Tony Lloyd

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment what input from organisations representing disabled people was considered in preparing the consultative document "Employment and Training for People with Disabilities".

Mr. Jackson

In preparing the consultative document the Department took into account the views and information derived from a wide variety of contacts maintained between this Department and organisations with an interest in, or responsibility for, people with disabilities.

Mr. Tony Lloyd

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment what advice was sought and from whom before the preparation of the consultative document "Employment and Training for People with Disabilities".

Mr. Jackson

The consultative document was preceded by a review of this Department's employment and training services for people with disabilities. This included consideration of a report on developing employment provisions for disabled people—the Tomlinson principles —by the National Advisory Council on Employment of Disabled People and the conclusions of the Public Accounts Committee in its report on employment assistance to disabled adults. The views and information derived from contacts maintained between this Department and organisations with an interest in, or responsibility for, people with disabilities were also taken into account.

Mr. Tony Lloyd

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment when he expects to make a statement following his consultation on the document "Employment and Training for People with Disabilities".

Mr. Jackson

As a result of consultations on the document, "Employment and Training for People with Disabilities" my right hon. and learned Friend has already announced changes to the local and national committees that provide us with advice on the employment of people with disabilities and improvements to the specialist services to people with disabilities. We are currently considering the many responses we have received on other issues raised in the consultative document.
