Mr. Home Robertson

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will publish tables showing(a) the expenditure per capita of population of each local authority in Scotland and (b) the level of central Government support per capita of population to each local authority.

The information, based on local authorities' budget estimates and the aggregate external finance settlement for 1991–92, is set out in the table.

Notes:

1. Figures used in column 1 are total relevant current expenditure including loan and leasing charges.

2. Total Government support includes revenue support grant, estimated non-domestic rate income and estimated specific grants for each authority. An additional £47.2 million specific grant relating to urban programm expenditure has not been allocated to individual authorities.

3. The figures in both columns were calculated using the population figures at June 1989.
