HC Deb 09 May 1991 vol 190 cc557-8W
Mr. Gareth Wardell

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what advice he offers to general practitioners who wish to refer their patients direct to the treatment centre for cataract surgery funded by his Department at Ysbyty Gwynedd, Bangor, on whether consultant surgeons at Bangor will accept patient referrals in circumstances other than where the patient's area health authority consultant refuses to co-operate.

Mr. Nicholas Bennett

. General practitioners should contact the treatment centre which will discuss with the patients' consultant whether re-referral will be in the clinical interests of the patient.

Mr. Maples

[holding answer 7 May 1991]: I refer my hon. Friend to the answer given by my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for the Environment on 7 May, at columns 402–3.
