§ Lord Mulley
asked her Majesty's Government:
Whether they will arrange that from 1992, the first May Bank Holiday falls on 1st May, as in the rest of Europe, and not as now, on the following Monday.
§ The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department of Employment (Viscount Ullswater)
No. The Government's view is that taking the holiday on a Monday minimises the disruption and expense to industry and commerce.
