HC Deb 07 May 1991 vol 190 c452W
Mr. Flynn

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment what is his current estimate of the total of people employed in more than one job who are counted more than once in the employment statistics.

Mr. Jackson

Precise information on the number of people with more than one job included in the published work force in employment estimates is not available. However, the labour force survey estimated that 724,000 people held a second job as an employee in the spring of 1990.

Mr. Skinner

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment what are the latest figures for unemployment; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Howard

In March 1991 seasonally adjusted unemployment in the United Kingdom was 2,092,700, a fall of 26 per cent. since the June 1987 election.

Mr. Wilson

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment how many 16 and 17-year-olds are included in the most recent unemployment statistics.

Mr. Jackson

In January 1991 the number of unemployed claimants in the United Kingdom aged under 18 was 2,709.
